Afghan Drug War

Afghan farmers work in their poppy field in Khogyani District of Nangarhar province in April, 2013. A report says the U.S-led drug war in Afghanistan is failing badly

America’s drug war in Afghanistan is failing badly. Afghan farmers are growing crops of opium poppies, even after U.S. agencies spent $7.6 billion to stop narcotic production in the nation. Afghanistan is the source of 80% of the world’s illegal opium, the U.S. government says, it is up $2 billion from the previous year. U.S. authorities say a big chunk of that money funds Afghanistan’s insurgency and terrorism. The U.S is wasting its time and money on a war that they will never win. The nation cannot afford such drastic and pointless measures. Because as long as their is,”Poverty, corruption, terrorism nexus to the narcotics trade, and access to alternative livelihood,” there will be no stopping to the situation.
